April 2024 Updates

April is a vibrant month full of new beginnings and growth. The flowers start to bloom, and the weather begins to get warmer. People often spend more time outside, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. It's a great time to start planting seeds in the garden or going for walks in the park. Overall, April is a month of renewal and excitement as we transition from the cold winter to the warmer days of spring. It can't come soon enough!

Anne's Southern Kitchen is now open in Indian Head at 4840 Strauss Avenue.

ISLAND GRILLE KOREAN RESTAURANT
Island Grille Korean restaurant is now open in the Lusby Town Center at 182 Village Center Drive.

My friends at Inside Commercial Real Estate Companies updated me on the Armory Square project in Prince Frederick. Tenants include Aldi, Dash In, Ace Hardware, Michael's, First Watch, Always Ice Cream, Quickway Hibachi, Fosters Grille, Jersey Mike's and Hangry Joe's. More to be announced at a later date. Groundbreaking will take place mid May. This is the corner of Route 2/4 and Dares Beach Road.
Sprouts Farmers Market is coming to the former HHGregg/Pop Up space at The Shops at Waldorf Center.  This will be their seventh location in Maryland.  Sprouts offers a large selection of organic and natural foods that are minimally processed, free of artificial flavors, colors, preservatives and synthetics.

The RAD House will have its Grand Opening May 3rd at the La Plata Village Center.  82 Drury Drive.

Well looks like they are going to move faster on taking down the farmers market then clearing the Wentworth land. Large excavator unloaded at the market, just waiting to clear it out.

Dang, now where will we get our counterfeit goods and wholesale/resale produce?

I'm sure another one will pop up somewhere,

The joy in seeing that bull dozer at the market ☺️

Waldorf is getting a Sprouts?! Wow that’s a HUGE move for Waldorf. If Waldorf can get the DC/PG headaches out of the way they’ll be onto something!

Sprouts is a going to be a good addition for Waldorf. It will hopefully alleviate the need for Trader Joe’s although I love Trader Joe’s. Good move Waldorf…good move!! Now we need a nice size entertainment center for families like D&B or Main Event; somewhere that also has bowling where leagues can’t hug up the lanes like AMF!!!

If Shoppers Food Can Afford To Open New Stores Maybe They Open One In La Plata, MD

All the "new" Shoppers are already closing. You have Weis, Giant, Safeway and Aldi in La Plata already... How many grocery stores do you think you need?

Lol! Get the PG/DC out of Waldorf? It's baked in, you have racial undertones.

Jimmy Beck here, would love to see some businesses my BFF Scotty Mac and I could frequent. We cruise around on his motorcycle on the weekends (I ride in the sidecar). We call it the "motoecycle".

Ha. With respect to racial overtones, I’m actually African American. It pains me dearly to call out the obvious. I’ve witnessed the transformation of Waldorf for nearly two decades and to some degree it’s been good (more stores, more diversity in people, shopping, higher socioeconomic status, and so on), but to a larger degree there have been challenges (spike in crime, deterioration of schools, litter (yes, litter!), loitering, and lack of care). We can shout the same old tired trope “well it’s happening everywhere!” but that’s simply not the case. I have many examples to give you…just let me know. While I no longer live in the county, I care about the county and Waldorf. I want Waldorf to live up to its full potential. And so when I say to keep some of the PG and DC elements out of Waldorf, I mean it. I’m not specifically talking about color because crime and poverty exists in every group. But what I don’t want is Charles County “importing” the bullshid that I have observed in DC and PG County. Although sadly, the county has to a degree. However, in the same vein I don’t want the county to harken back to its former years as a deeply racist, and intolerant place. I simply want Charles County to be a place of peace, and a place families (black, white, Asian, Hispanic, etc.) can thrive! That starts with recognizing the issues and addressing then head on. Not dodging the obvious stuff we all see unfolding.

We Want A Popshelf Store In Waldorf, MD

Wow. I’m super excited about Sprouts coming to Waldorf. I have been driving way to Herndon, Va just to shop at this store. They have many organic, vegan and gluten free items to choose from. Way to go Waldorf 😇

Yeah, for those saying how great it is, maybe you can pay my lost income? I used to make a good living there, selling fresh chicken poo pies, my homemade puff poostries and jars of aromatic spiced farts.

Any idea on what may could go into the 3 closed SFW grocery stores.

Chris Shasho said...

I doubt they were prepared for this closing so they weren't marketing for tenants yet.

Getting a Sprouts is excellent however I hope people don’t forget about MOMs Organic Market which moved here and provided organic products when other companies didn’t/wouldnt. I hope they both THRIVE. This would prove that Waldorf wants/needs/and patrons “upscale” businesses. We have too many liquor stores, nail salons and beauty supply stores. And yes, I’m African American. Also, how do we stop people from littering and make the county cut the grass more often (throughout the county).
