Maryland Airport Flying High

For many that don't know, Maryland Airport is a privately owned public use airport located in Pomonkey, MD and has been around since 1945.  Currently the runway is 3,740 ft which fits well for small engine planes and small private jets.  It can also accommodate helicopters and has fuel on site as well as hangars available for storage.  The airport also provides support for state and local law enforcement and emergency services. 
What many also don't know is that its part of the Federal and State integrated transportation plan which designates the airport as a reliever for Regan National.  So basically if there is an emergency they can divert small corporate aircraft here if needed. It is the closest regional airport outside the no-fly zone.  Future plans are to add a small terminal and extend the runway to to 4,300 ft to attract more businesses users and also people that want to fly into the area for the attractions nearby like the National Harbor.  This will be a great help and can create jobs that coincide with the airport like aviation engineers, technicians and maintenance workers.  From a 2013 economic impact study it is reported that the airport contributes more than $9 million annually in the form of direct and indirect business revenue.

Mom's Organic Grocery Waldorf Opening

Mom's Organic Grocery has set a grand opening for November 9, 10 & 11 in Waldorf, MD

ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Maryland's family owned organic grocer, MOM's Organic Market, is bringing organic food at affordable prices to southern Maryland with the opening of a new store in Waldorf, MD. The new store, MOM's first location in Charles County, will provide local customers with an incredible selection of 100% certified organic produce; grass-fed organic meat and dairy; bulk food, coffee and spices; sustainable seafood; food for gluten free and raw diets; freshly baked Spring Mill Bread and an extensive wellness department.

Located at the intersection of Route 301 and Plaza Way in Waldorf, MD, MOM's Waldorf was renovated following environmentally conscious principals that support MOM's purpose: to protect and restore the environment. The store design utilizes low impact building materials, low VOC paint, LED lighting and energy-efficient closed-door coolers. Like all MOM's Organic Market locations, MOM's Waldorf is 100% wind powered. The store features recycling centers for CFL bulbs, household batteries and used shoes. Two electric car charging stations are available (free of charge) in the parking lot outside. MOM's also offsets the carbon footprint for shopping by purchasing carbon credits from TerraPass in proportion to estimated emissions from customers' travel to and from the store.

MOM's Organic Market will celebrate the Grand Opening in Waldorf on November 9th, 10th and 11th during regular store hours (9am – 9pm Monday through Saturday, 9am – 8pm Sunday). The festivities will include dozens of local vendor demos, free food samples, goody bags and gift-baskets, plus crafting activities and henna face-paint for kids.

Holly Tree Center and other updates

I figure an update is in order as things wind down in 2011 so here are a few things that I have been asked about.
Holly Tree Center shown above is a retail center on route 301 next to Popeye's that should start seeing its tenants begin space construction next month.  The tenants currently lined up are from left to right: Dairy Queen Ice Cream, Nail Salon, Women's wig and hair accessories, Benny's and 7-11.  There is one more space available.

There is a building going up on Rt 925 just south of Pembrooke center.  That will be a doctors office which should be complete by spring.

Community Bank is mid construction on their admin building located behind their current building near the corner of 301 and route 5.

The new Waldorf library next to Boston's will be complete by July 2012

Laugh out loud center will be replaced by Chuck E Cheese and a fitness center at Charles County Plaza

In La Plata, the Chipotle will open around March 1st and will be joined by Sweet Frog frozen yogurt.

Not Dunkin Donuts but 7-11

The old Friendly's location on Crain Highway and Holly Lane next to Raleys Furniture will not become a Dunkin' Donuts as I was informed.  Renovations are currently underway for a 7-11 store.  We can expect an opening sometime this winter.  There is another 7-11 store set to open in the small strip center next to Popeye's as well along with some other tenants I will mention in another post shortly.  Thank you to my followers for the update.

Cafe Rio Mexican Grill

 

It has been announced that Cafe Rio will be building a new location at the Shops at Waldorf Center.  This Shopping center formerly known as Festival Shopping Center is currently expanding its retail on Rt. 228 (Berry Rd.)  CVS has already moved to the new area and Cafe Rio will join them on this site.  We are guessing at a late winter early spring opening.  More details as we get them.  Cafe Rio makes everything fresh, has no freezers or microwaves in their restaurants, and uses no artificial ingredients.  To learn more about them, visit their website:  www.caferio.com

Dairy Queen Update 3.16.2011

I went past the La Plata Dairy Queen tonight and they have papers on the doors saying accepting applications March 17th from 9:30 - 6:00

Chevys Opening in Brandywine

Cracker Barrel Waldorf Opens April 4th

Cracker Barrel is set to open April 4th at its Waldorf location 3742 Crain highway next to the Hampton Inn and Carrabba's restaurant.  The building is over 10,000 square feet and will employ about 150 people.  The area will now be referred to as Waldorf Park according to the new signage that went up today.  Thanks to one of my blog followers for the opening date information.  Now Hiring signs are on the building to apply at the site 9am-5pm Mon thru Fri. or Sat 10am-2pm  You can also call the store (301) 638-2570

New tenants for Lancaster

We have filled two more spots at the Shops at Lancaster at 177 St. Patricks Dr.  The first is Old Central Barbers II that has expanded to its second location in Waldorf.  Our next tenant is Nails Obsession that offers nail designs, manicures, pedicures, waxing and other assorted services.  Both are open for business and join Children of America Daycare in the center.



La Plata Valvoline Breaks Ground

Valvoline Instant Oil Change has broken ground next to BB&T in Laplata.  We expect it to open in the early summer.  The Exxon next door is still set to reopen under new ownership sometime in the future.  At this time we do not know if will remain under the same brand.

New to Brandywine

Across from Brandywine Crossing Shopping Center is the 301 Commercial Center which will be opening in sections as each site is finished. Currently Chick-fil-a will open first followed by Aldi foods, Autozone & the Baden Medical Center

Target listens to its customers

Beginning sometime in the late summer of 2010 target in La Plata has been approved to begin selling fresh produce and meats in its store. This is a great addition to help give customers a one stop shopping experience.
