December 2022 Updates

Happy Holidays to you!  I hope everyone has a wonderful December and you get to spend it with friends and family.  Its so important to get that family time in.  Make those memories, take those pictures and videos.  Don't be shy.  You will want them later on when you get older.  I also hope we remember to be kind to one another.  It doesn't take much to do it.  Helping others, holding that door open, donating to the less fortunate.  Sometimes its that one small thing that will brighten another persons day.  You never know what someone else is going thru.

Slim Chickens has posted an opening date of December 15th.  They are located at 22622 MacArthur Blvd in California, MD in the Patuxent Crossing Shopping Center.
Kung Fu Tea is showing a Grand Opening date of January 20th in Prince Frederick at the Chapline place Shopping Center.
Brotha Manns Tacos now open in the Smallwood Village Shopping Center. Located at #109 Smallwood Village Center, Waldorf. We are happy to have brokered this deal.
Cobb island Public Market has opened at 17005 Cobb island Road.

I’m sure this has been asked many times but any plans to revitalize the st Charles mall? Can we attract more national brand stores?

Chris Shasho said...

There are no plans to overhaul the mall.

Chris what's the latest with Waldorf Station? Does anybody know the timeline for construction completion?

Chris Shasho said...

Its a long term project with many phases. Until they finish the western parkway out to 301 I don't see them getting started any time soon.

Anyone know what Sean Earley is going to do with the old McKays store in Charlotte Hall. Looks like there is activity inside the store

Hey Chris, love this blog, visit every month :)
I see they're getting close on the building phase, do you know the planned opening date for the Aldi in La Plata?

Are there any plans for bringing local Mexican restaurants to Waldorf. It’s hard to believe that we don’t have any after the one moved to White Plains years ago and went downhill and the other one in the Napoli shopping center went out of business.

I don't think it makes one bit of difference what people in charlotte want and don't want. They will do whatever they want with no concern for the people who live there. Another gas station in the area is ridiculous and so unnecessary. Also I don't believe many people want to see the farmers market go away, but again they will do what in "their" minds is progress. Enough already.

What happened with the renovation/opening of Texas Ribs in the Smallwood Shopping Center????

Win Barber said...

replying to Anonymous: Which farmers market are you talking about? There's a sizable new enclosed one, on I think it's 236 or Mechanicsville Road. There's another, twice a week, behind LaPlata court house.

Under the impression they were trying to close the one to in charlotte hall next to hooks and hangers. Could just be a rumor.

Trying to sell the property. It was for sale. Chris would know more on that.

Chris, do you have a list of planned Housing Developments for Southern Brandywine and Waldorf areas that are in planning or starting construction soon? Also what is the status on the Car Wash at the old Cadilac Motel site?

I see they are doing road improvements on Rt 5 across from Pinefield Development so does this mean the East property that is part of the Waldorf Station planning to start construction?

Cant comment on old McKays yet.

No opening date for Aldi yet. Thanks for the comments.

The Mexico restaurant in white plains is fantastic. We are there every other week and it has not gone downhill. There is a new Fiesta Tex Mex place opening in the waldorf marketplace sometime early next year.

The Texas Rib place opened months ago. Still great food.

We are working with the owners to redevelop that whole shopping center including the farmers market. Nothing will be sold off. They will be leasing pad sites for new development. Sooner or later the farmers market will go away. The Amish have moved on to the new market and I've heard that St. Mary's landing will be removed and there was rumor someone wanted to make a smaller market on that site.

I don't keep any list of residential projects because I stay far away from that side of real estate. I think Greenburg gibbons may start on some of their residential plans before the commercial part because the western parkway exit on to 301 is taking far too long to complete. So that may be what is taking place now in Pinefield.
Car wash is still coming along.

The Rib & BBQ (old Texas Ribs), St Charles is closed. Now Brotha Man Tacos from what I understand.

Is Aldi coming to Charlotte Hall? There is a pad site big enough for sale for it. Rumor?

Chris Shasho said...

Late to the blog this month, I liked what you about being kind to others, by holding the door, cause you never know what someone is going through.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Anonymous said...

That is something that should happen every day of the week, not just over the holidays. There's just not enough kindness in the world these days.

Anonymous said...

You would think that the week of Christmas the mall would be packed with shoppers. Not the case in waldorf. A good many have closed up shop and the remaining were mostly void of shoppers. Unless there is a drastic change to the stores that are there, the mall will be history in a few years.

Chris Shasho said...

Thanks for the comments always appreciated.

Yes there are rumors of shoppers coming back but nothing is for certain.

I'm not even seeing Christmas help in stores. Where are is all the extra help thy usually have? Its sad. Nobody is working.

Anonymous said...

Adding more appealing and unique stores to the mall as well as getting rid of the less appealing ones is the only way it has a chance of surviving.

Hey Chris -

One suggestion. When you post about a place could you make its address a clickable map link?

Such as Cobb Island Market located at
17005 Cobb Island Road, Cobb Island, MD.

Chris: Is the Taco Bell located at Smallwood Drive & 301 being renovated or just closed permanently?

Chris Shasho said...

Taco bell is being renovated.

Anonymous said...

Hi. This is more than likely the construction of the overpass bridge to replace the three lane turn.

Anybody know what is going in by the Army Reserve Center off 227 in White Plains?

Anonymous said...

Hope they’re making the drive through wider. That one is such a pain to get through!

Anonymous said...

Chris you have a grand opening date for Cava restaurant and Waldorf? Other January 2023 updates?

Chris Shasho said...

The new construction by the Army reserve is a CoPart auto auction.
