College of Southern Maryland Hughesville Campus

The College of Southern Maryland will be breaking ground on their new 50 acre campus in the next few months.  The campus is centrally located to help serve the tri-county area.  Part of the campus will house the Center for Trades and Energy which deals with HVAC, Electric, Welding, Carpentry, etc. that is currently in a smaller building in the St. Charles Industrial Park.  The new center will double in size to 40,000 square feet.  Other buildings that may follow are Health Sciences and a Fine Arts Center.  In 1997 Hughesville was designated as a priority funding area by the state to help with economic growth.  The new campus will benefit not only the students but the entire Hughesville area.  The area is also home to SMECO, The Southern Maryland Association of Realtors and the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland.

Do you know whats planned for the space behind the new car wash in Brandywine that's beside the Chik-Fil-A? Looks like they've been doing some work.

Chris, Thanks for keeping us up to date with commercial happenings. I recently moved to Hughesville and am excited about the college developing that land. Do you know if there is any additional retail or restaurants planned for Hughesville or Charlotte Hall? I keep hearing about developing downtown Hughesville, but nothing specific. Any bits you can share?

Cant wait to see how they redo traffic pattern in Hughesville for the college n

Traffic would come in from Gallant green road which has a traffic light. So should have no other impact on Rt 5.

Gallant Green Road cant handle traffic at that end where traffic light is. The state will ultimately have to revamp that area where lught is.
