Headhunting for new retailers

This Tuesday and Wednesday we are at the National Harbor going after new tenants for Southern Maryland.  The Mid Atlantic Conference and Deal Making session is a smaller version of the 4 day Las Vegas ICSC Convention in May.  We will also be representing Southern Maryland at that event.  We walk acres of prospective tenants to find out who is interested in coming to our area.  It's a great way to network and keep up our knowledge of new trends and retailers while bringing new tenants to our area.

Good luck. If you see a ROTI rep there tell them to open a shop in Waldorf:)

Roti was there, they were looking for dense populated locations, citi areas, etc.. I have a contact for them if they decide to come south.

Any promising leads Chris?

I got some information about tenants moving to different locations like Chuck E Cheese taking half of the LOL Station near Giant and a fitness center taking the other half. I spoke to a Roy Rogers representative and they are working on buying the old La Plata Arbys. Sonic does not have a franchiser looking in our area. Dunkin Donuts is looking in waldorf and la plata. Bennigan's is out of trouble and back to looking for locations so I am going to try to get them back. Alot of these new franchises dont have a franchiser for our area so they have to wait until one shows up. We need more entrepreneurs!! Doesn't anyone have a few million dollars in their couch cushons to play with?

I think that a Macaroni Grill would really work in this area. If I had money I would love to francise one or open an upscale lounge in the area to take over the Icon nightclub.

Macaroni Grill was supposed to be in the Waldorf Marketplace where Famous Dave's ended up going. Any word on what's happening with the Arby's in Waldorf that shut down?

Chris, what's up with WOW World of Wings in the Waldorf Marketplace, there's a big ad in the Pennysaver and the website says coming soon.

There was an ad on craigslist for WOW hiring and said it was reopening. I think it's a franchise and the previous franchisee pulled out so I guess they found another one.

We do not have enough population for those restaurants. They require a large daytime population for lunch crowds and unfortunately we are not even close to it. This is another reason why we need to keep more of our people closer to home. If people would tell their bosses in D.C. and other areas how much cheaper it is to operate in southern maryland, and they should move their businesses here, we could have more of the upscale restaurants.

Any information about a Sheetz coming to the area? I know we are sort of littered with Wawa and the 2 new 7-11 stores that opened but there would be a market here.
