Super Walmart in La Plata

Work is currently being done to annex property into the town of La Plata for a super Walmart. The new store would bring another 70+ jobs to the area. It will be located across from the Rosewick Crossing shopping center. If this happens we would then work to get the current space filled with larger tenants such as retail stores or even a small movie theatre which would be a great asset to the area.

Yes, we have a few things working to fill the current walmart space so the new walmart can move forward. It will be awhile before you see any dirt getting moved around.

I was wondering if we could get a Tim Hortons in the Charles COunty area? Tim Hortons would be an excellent alternative to Starbucks and the coffee is much better and more affordable.

I was reading about their history, a very interesting story. It was started by a hockey player. It was actually the restaurant that Stan Mikita's was based on in the movie Wayne's World. According to the web site the closest ones are in West Virginia and Norfolk, VA. They are a franchise so we need to find someone interested in opening one aroud here. I will send them some info on our area incase a franchisee is looking here. Thanks for your comment.

You might gain a few jobs in one corner, but the loss would be greater by the jobs losts. The town already has three major grocery stores, Lowes and Target. Do you honestly believe these places would not be effected??? As far as I am concerned, the town needs to stop turning La Plata into "Waldorf South". I live in the town and am praying that my officials who represent me (not developers, and those living outside of the towns limit) stand behind their "NO" decision from the first vote. I just read that Waldorf will be having another vacant store, Borders will be closing. I do not want "my town" to become another Waldorf.

The last meeting with the county went pretty well and business are behind it. When all is said and done it will create more jobs because not only will walmart hire more employees but the several other businesses that will fill walmarts current space will hire as well. It will also draw more business to the surrounding stores in the area.
