June 2024 Updates

The month of June is a time when the sun shines brightly and the days are long. Time to enjoy outdoor activities like swimming, barbecuing, and going on vacations as the kids are getting out of school. June marks the beginning of summer. One of my favorite times of the year.  I started my summer having my gallbladder removed.  Apparently it didn't like my eating habits.  Drink water people.  Lots of it!

“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” - Mark Twain

I should have taken this advice.  I spent too much time this weekend dealing with people talking trash about me on Facebook.  Apparently when I post what's coming some people think it's all my stuff.  They think these are all my projects and all my developments and I make all the decisions on who comes to the area. Like I personally decide to put four chicken restaurants in an area.  99% of what I tell you about I have absolutely nothing to do with.  We don't own any properties besides our office space we occupy.  I'm just informing you of what's happening in the area because I don't like rumors flying around and its kind of fun to do.  I'm trying to educate.  But these Yo-Yos hold me personally responsible for every tree that has been taken down in Southern Maryland and every nail salon.  You try to educate and explain and its like talking to a brick wall.  I know better to engage but when they try to defame you you better believe I'm going to respond.  And I'll go the legal route if I have to.

Because I've been asked about this project I looked up whatever information was available.  In Brandywine by the GMC dealership they are clearing land for this project called Calm Retreat. It is a 72 acre site that is said to have around 850 residential units and maybe three small commercial buildings at the entrance.  Concepts are always subject to change.
Navy Federal Credit Union and Pizza Hut Express are now open at the Brandywine Village Shopping Center off of Chadds Ford Drive in Brandywine.

Atrium Spirits liquor store is now open at 37680 Mohawk Dr, Charlotte Hall.

For some reason the Beauty Island coming to Waldorf Shoppers world in place of Bed bath and Beyond has changed the name to Beauty Town.  Looks like they are getting close to opening.

WMK Appliances is opening soon at Waldorf Shoppers World.  This will be their third location in the DMV area. 3228 Crain Highway
Old Navy shows opening this summer at the Shops at Waldorf.  They are now hiring.

Saladworks is showing a new grand opening date of September 10th at the Brandywine Crossing Shopping Center.  15802 Crain Highway next to the UPS Store.  This is their forth location in Maryland.  Dates always subject to change.
One Eyed Jack's Seafood Market & Deli is taking over the former Pickers Paradise at 23905 Mervell Dean Road, Hollywood, MD

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is showing an opening date of July 8th at the Brandywine Village shopping center.  15805 Crain Highway, Unit H.

  1. Really sorry you have to deal with some of the online jerks. I, for one, really appreciate the information you provide to us. It's nice knowing what's coming to the area, what's going away, and when forums or meetings might be taking place.

THANK YOU for this VOLUNTARY service you provide. There are some of us that REALLY appreciate you.

  3. You do a fantastic job Chris!! It's just like when you explain why we don't have the high end retail in Charles County, some people just don't get it,and that is why there won't be high end retail in Charles County.

  4. Chris please don't let a few disrupt the valuable information you provide. Fact is, the government nor Shasho has anything to do with what retail sets up in the county. I say retail because very little office will invest in the county or State for that matter. I will say I don't think another house should be built without traffic improvement. Maryland on the whole has some of the worst traffic in America because we travel outside of out local areas because there is little work within 20 miles. Maryland is basically a big bedroom community that helps satisfy the growth in NoVA. I appreciate your input and please keep it up !!!

  5. Thank you Chris for all the information you provide us. Please know that we know you have nothing to do with most of these projects. The information you provide is valuable and I look forward to your monthly posts here and on Facebook. Keep doing what you're doing!

  7. I've been following you for years. Never commented on anything you've posted but now is the time...Your blog is one of the many pivotal reasons why I decided to move to Charles County, it definitely keeps my family informed and a number of us are checking in each month to see what is new. Keep up the great work!

  8. Same here. This is literally the ONLY source I go to for all commercial happenings in Southern MD. The Charles County site for economic development is a complete snoozer! I enjoy the updates very much here and I hope you continue making a difference.

  9. I agree with the sentiments here! I rely heavily on this blog for updates to our community and I am so sorry that you have been dealing with such negativity. Please continue updating your blog and pay no attention to any negative feedback. That quote is hilarious and unfortunately very accurate. Never argue with ignorant people! Just continue trying to educate others and keep it moving. Wishing you all the best!

  14. Thank you all for the comments. I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. When people say thing like "you're a crook and stealing the charm of the county to put more millions in your pocket" well it took me over the limit. You put that out to the public and it can hurt my business.

  15. Chris... one question for you...why do you bother with the 'Idiots'? Please ignore them and keep moving forward...granted this can be difficult for some (I get it) but the best course of action.

As for my comments...I will echo what has been previously posted...you are doing a great community service. For example, I just went to the Charles County Economic Development web site and saw the "5 Year Economic Development Plan"... dated 2016.

    Thanks again...

    Thanks for what you do!

Any idea what’s happening close to you there at what looks to be an old bank?
On Stanhaven Pl & 301 it looks like they have started work inside the building.

  24. Thank you, Chris for provided very necessary information. I do get frustrated with some of the businesses that come here that I feel we don't need but I certainly don't blame you. You're just the messenger, doing a fine job that you're not paid to do. Keep it and your head up!!

    2. Not quite right next to Brusters, but the next spot over which is probably in question as well since it’s a rebuild of what used to be pickers paradise antiques is going to be a Togo seafood market. Believe either Baynet or southern Maryland news net type of article had given that update :) but also interested in development what will be directly next to brusters :)

  29. Weis Market grocery store is coming to Charlotte Hall very soon. It'll be in the abandoned lot (named Charlotte Hall Commons) across from McDonald's and next to the 7|11. Previously approved for McKays, but Weis just took over the existing building permits and renewed them last month. Currently going through slight plan adjustments, but no full county planning commission review required. Permits and updated MSP are moving quickly.

Site plan includes Weis (with drive through pharmacy) connected to a strip of multiple retail slots. 4 Separate buildings are also included in the plans, but likely to come later.

Will be great to have another grocery store in the area.

    1. Is this really true about Weis coming to Charlotte Hall? If so, that will be three grocery stores in Charlotte Hall as Aldi is coming too.

  30. Wonder if they will all survive.

  31. If this is true about a Weis coming to CH will it be a upscale store like up on Billingsley Rd.?

  32. Chris any idea when Sprouts Farmers Market is expected to open in Waldorf? Fall 2024?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sorry I went to OC for a few days and I cant respond to the blog from there for some reason. Yes Weis is coming to charlotte hall and should be a store just like the one coming to St. Charles. I was waiting until all the papers were signed. I don't like to post anything until I know its going to come out of the ground.

They haven't even started doing anything for sprouts so fall is probably a good estimate.

  34. Thanks Chris for your responses on Weis coming to Charlotte Hall. Any timeline identified yet on when it might hope to be open?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well my guess would be next summer, they still need to do the grading and all the underground work. That lot has water to it but no sewer. Charlotte Hall will be a busy place in the next year with all the construction going, will look very different when its all done.

  36. Next summer is a good guess. When I'm not involved in leasing for the center I have no idea where they are on planning and permits so its totally up in the air.
