The month of May brings a sense of happiness and delight to many people. The blooming flowers and warmer weather transitioning from spring to summer create a feeling of joy in the air. People often spend more time outdoors during May, enjoying the beauty of nature. The joy of May reminds us to appreciate the simple pleasures in life and embrace the happiness that surrounds us.

Looking at the comments over and over I think people forget that Waldorf is the main area of Charles County and that's where its supposed to have the most development. St. Charles Development was planned in the early 60's. All the homes sites were planned years in advance.
"These developers are destroying all the trees and there wont be any left." Maybe take a drive a mile or so off of 301 and you will see that there are farms, parks, forests and protected wetlands all over. 50% of the county will always stay green according to the comprehensive plan. Here is the link but its a big document:

You say you aren't informed? Here is the schedule of Charles County commissioner meetings. Go and make a statement:
This is the full lineup of tenants for the Brandywine Village next to 7-11 and Taco Bell on Chadds Ford Drive. The last tenants added area a dentist and Zips Cleaners.
Hey Chris, do you know what is about to occupy the empty storefront in Waldorf over in the shopping center behind chipotle…in between the Teriyaki Extreme and Pizza Hut? I think it was a furniture store prior. It looks like it’s about to be turned into something.
ReplyDeleteAny idea who the property management company is for the new apartments in laplata? There’s no information online…just old ‘coming soon’ type of publications. On the builders website and the website of Sandy Spring bank…nothing. Kinda curious of the floor plans and amenities.
ReplyDeleteOk I know this may be a stretch but I was raised in Waldorf and I sweeeear I remember there being a Howard Johnson Motel somewhere near where Best Buy is now and PNC Bank which used to be a Great American Steak & Buffet. But my parents keep telling me there wasn’t! Am I crazy or was there a Howard Johnson in the area a long time ago?
ReplyDeleteHello
DeleteYou are right, I moved to Waldorf in. 1997 and there was a Howard Johnson extended stay hotel where the Best Buy and where the PNC bank is located was the Great American Steak restaurant that burned down.
DeleteI lived in Waldorf, graduated in 87'. There was a hotel where Best buy is. I remember it being a Knights inn. Was probably 88' ish.
DeleteThere was a po folks and a knights in motor lodge where best buy is now. howard johnsons was in laplata where panda express is.
ReplyDeleteThank you Chris.
DeleteThank you for continuing to provide this valuable information.
ReplyDeleteThere was also a large church on that corner of best buy.
ReplyDeleteThe apartments have not yet put out any information on leasing. I spoke to the developer recently. He said maybe another couple of weeks.
I dont see anything posted on that empty space at shoppers world but Ill keep an eye on it.
I'd love to see a Creamed Corn Cantina or maybe a Tia's Taco & Endoscopy Supercenter here.
ReplyDeleteFor a short time, the motel was definitely a Howard Johnson (near the Waldorf Best Buy). I remember staying there in the late 90's or early 2000's. My recollection is that it was branded Howard Johnson very briefly.
ReplyDeleteI thought so!!! Thanks!
DeleteThere was a Howard Johnson in Waldorf, 301 & 228 where Best Buy is now when I moved to Waldorf in Jan 1992, I think it may have just closed around that time.
ReplyDeleteChris is it true that the Starbucks in Charlotte Hall was moved over to the Aldi site? Also I noticed in Brandywine that the6 have cut a new road through behind the Winegarden dealership. Town homes Im guessing. That land is huge back there. Im seeing another stoplight when those are completed. That new light going in on 301 at what use to be the Cadilac entrance is unwanted. What a mess, glad Im retired, its got to be a parking lot during rush hour now.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Fairway Village, will there be an entrance off Billingsley Road and one off St Charles Parkway by Demarr Road? I would assume they will expand the parkway and the intersection at Demarr Rd. There’s really room for even one car in the intersection. Please tell me they dont plan putting a light there.
ReplyDeleteIs the new shopping center going to have Waldorf or White Plains addresses?
DeleteChris, is there more commerial development planned in the Brandywine village, where the new Navy Federal, Pizza Hut is going? I agree with the posting above about more lights going in Waldorf GMC, and at the Chipotle. What will happen is people will start using all the other roads to get back and forth from DC, clogging those rural roads not designed for heavy traffic. I was told that originally the plan was to make Rt 5 a freeway and install overpasses and side roads to access the commercial and residental areas, but nothing has happen other than promises to aliviate congestion.
ReplyDeleteYes starbucks is moved to the other side of the road. I just posted the layout.
ReplyDeleteYes at Fairway Village there are two entrances off Billingsley and one across from Demarr Road.
At Brandywine village they are showing another possible 11 acres available for lease space. I saw some plans a while back for a roadway that would make it easier to navigate around that area but I'm still looking for it. Yes at one time they had a plan to make 301/5 look like Clinton. It would have killed many businesses. Basically a bypass of Waldorf. I'm glad it didnt happen.
Is it true that there are two spots slotted for additional space going next to Royal Farms in Charlotte Hall?
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot that is available for lease. It doesn't have to be two buildings. It could be set up many different ways. That's just a concept drawing.
ReplyDeleteWas PO Folks that burned down.
ReplyDeleteIt was the Great American that burned down. That’s my recollection.
DeleteYou can repeat it as many times as you'd like, won't make it right.
DeleteAll you had to do was Google it see that, yes, it was Great American Steakhouse, as if it mattered that badly.

Chris do you have any information on the construction/development timeline and next steps for the Waldorf Sports Park development by the county?
ReplyDeleteI went back and found that is was the great American steak and buffet that burned down in July 2005.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris. I saw that a beauty supply storage is moving into the space previously occupied by Bed Bath and Beyond. I also hear that the owners are the same people who own the beauty supply store next to Hobby Lobby. Do you know if they are relocating, or opening up a 2nd store? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any information on the sports park. I'm asking a few commissioners if they have an update.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if the new beauty Island is the same as Super Beauty at marketplace currently. Why would they change the name?
What new shopping center?
ReplyDeleteI saw where some franchise people want to put numerous pickleball courts in the Tri-County area. Inside and outside. There are sure enough big empty stores with high ceilings that could be used. Maybe bring one to the old McKays/Shoppers in Charlotte Hall.
ReplyDeleteAny word if Preller Bros plan to open the Royal Farms in Indian Head? I believe they bought property near the Dash-In but on 225 instead of 210.
ReplyDeleteI think Fairway Village is listed as Waldorf.
ReplyDeleteRoyal farms in Indian head is still going thru its approval process. The land is the corner of 210 and 225.
Chris - Do you know what is being built on Route 301 in Brandywine just south of Buick dealership? Thanks for all the information you share with us.
ReplyDeleteIts residential with maybe two small commercial buildings near the highway.
ReplyDeleteLooks like they will need another stoplight there to get out of that development. There is alot of land cleared back there for more homes and townhomes. Boy southbound 301 from the split is going to take forever to get to Waldorf. I havent even mentioned till now about the light going in at what was the old entrance to the Cadillac Motel. That will make 5 stoplights before you cross the county line within maybe a half a mile.
ReplyDeleteIn Hollywood next to Brusters seems like a lot of clearing business building happening. Any insights? I know the townhomes are going in further south. But this is on the north side.
