Hi Chris! I noticed the parcel at Piney Church and Billingsley is now graded - what will be going there?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Nothing yet, we are working on a few ideas. St. Charles is starting on some more homes for that area so they graded the commercial parcel to save time and money later.
ReplyDeletePlease no more homes! There are so many vacant homes (new and resale) that are just sitting. Traffic is already a beast. Geez!
ReplyDeleteThe market is coming back strong. There aren't really that many more homes on the market than when thigs were great. Most of the new homes like in St. Charles are presold before they are built. I don't sell houses so dont shoot the messenger, lol
ReplyDeleteIs the Famous Footwear closing at the Waldorf Marketplace? That is the 3rd store to depart after the David Palmer Salon and Kincaid furniture. What is going on over there?
ReplyDeleteI have heard rumors but still nothing solid about FF, David palmer was an owner problem, and kincaid has been going out of business for years so I still dont believe it till they close the doors. I dont know what is going on over there but all my tenants I did are still going strong. Maybe no one likes the furniture they sell, I didnt.
ReplyDeleteI was over there yesterday and the shelves are bare and their large sign taken down. I tried Kincaid too and it just wasn't a good experince. Ashley Furniture or even a World Market would do better there beside HomeGoods/TJMAxx. David was a serious trip and thats all I am going to say about that. But the WOW Cafe is way better than Buffalo Wild Wings so I am glad they reopened.
ReplyDeleteI was told by the LaPlata Famous Footwear that the Waldorf location was closing last month. As for WOW, my wife and son ate there and were disgusted with it. Chris, what's up with Hubbard's on St Patricks?
ReplyDeleteI saw the signs up that Roomstore was closing at Shops at Waldorf. This combined with Staples next door creates a huge amount of big box space. Any word on what might fill it yet?
ReplyDeleteWestlake Square is just a bad idea. I don't understand the need to fill every bit of land with space and these small tiny shopping centers are just ridiculous. It's too bad there isn't some vision that could have allowed for some continuity and the space that we have to be used in a better, more appealing way.
ReplyDeleteIn reference to the Room Store that location was one of the few bought by the new owner of the company Rooms To Go and will become a Rooms To Go they have a lot of those in the south and the stores are very huge. http://www.furnituretoday.com/article/553245-RTG_heads_to_Richmond.php
ReplyDeleteThe land for westlake shopping was earmarked years ago for that purpose as part of the st. charles master plan.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information on the furniture store change of ownership.
No word on what will take over the space. I just did a blog on that center and they had not mentioned any tenant for it yet.
Chris, Any updates on Roy Rogers moving back to La Plata??
ReplyDeleteAll i know is they were going thru the approval process for changing the look of the building and I believe permits. With the way things are going with the town and county I'm not suprised its taking this long.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad little has been done to get businesses other than retailers to move to Charles County, so those of us that commute to DC and Virginia wouldn't have to
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to David Palmer salon? I've heard mixed reviews...
ReplyDeleteI agree; county officials need to do more to attract commercial businesses with higher wages. Retailers follow commercial activity; just look at Reston, Alexandria, Columbia and even Germantown for instance. This has been mentioned plenty of times at the county meetings I have attended but I am not sure if we have the right elected officials in office to make it happen.
ReplyDeleteDavid Palmer Salon from what I was told walked out and didnt tell his employees. I was told that by his employees so I dont know both sides of the story.
ReplyDeleteWhen elected officials are having an internal battle its not good for anyone. I am hoping that our new economic development director will have some new ideas to put us on the right track.
ReplyDeleteHello Chris, do you know what's happening on Billingsley Road near St. Patrick's. Land has been cleared. Looks like a housing development going up? Any info?
ReplyDeleteYes, I had asked about that a while go and I believe it is houses.
ReplyDeleteHello Chris...do you think we could get a Wegman's, Harris Teeter's, Baja Fresh or even a Mike's restaurant in the area anytime soon?
ReplyDeleteBaja would require a franchiser interested in the area. I have contacted them in the past. The supermarkets wont come around for a few years but they are watching the area.
ReplyDeleteChris have you heard what stores are coming to the Westlake Square Shopping Center? So far I have only heard about Cheers Liquor store; which I think is a bad idea to place right next to a high school and a daycare center! Sometimes the things the county approves in certain locations just frustrates me to just not even care anymore.
ReplyDeleteI have just heard the normal things, nails, barber 7-11 and the daycare so far. I agree that there should be a farther distance from schools and other childcare places. I accidentally deleted your other comment when i was checking my phone so if you want to make that comment again on the other post please do. These buttons are to small.
