New shops are popping up at the Shops at Waldorf. First to open is the Ulta Beauty store located near Christmas tree shops. Cafe Rio will be opening June 30th and Genghis Grill and Sweet frog frozen yogurt will come in the near future. Construction is underway for the Charming Charlie womens accessory retailer. Genghis Grille will take over the former Chuck E Cheese which officially opens on June 18th at the Charles County Plaza. Sweet Frog is currently planned to move in next to Ledo's Pizza. More details as we get them.
UPDATE: Staples will be moving over between Babies R Us and Ulta and Charming Charlie will be between Ulta and Christmas tree shops. Jennifer Furniture will be leaving. No word on what is happening with the Staples space.

ReplyDeleteSweet frog is still coming to la plata, they are just slow in the process. The one in Waldorf just signed on so it will take an estimate of 4 months to build. As we find out I will post it.

ReplyDeleteIt would require a rezoning. Currently it is zoned business park and i can only do 15% of it as retail.

Still working thru the process with the county, If all goes well perhaps in the winter. We are ready to sell lots immediately. There will be a traffic light at the entrance, and that took alot of time.

ReplyDeleteI have not spoke with the buyer, but I think its a done deal. I am waiting for confirmation so don't quote me on that just yet.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the space Staples is moving to is smaller than their existing space is that correct? Are there plans to speed up the renovation of the center or is it still being phased (very) slowly? Do you think Wegman's is still a few years away or do you think it could be sooner?
ReplyDeleteI think they are still working on an as necessary basis. The new Staples location is definitely smaller. We are seeing alot of the big box stores try new smaller models that they can fit in smaller centers. Wegmans is still a few years away. We are in contact with them.

ReplyDeleteHas there been any updates on the Super Walmart in La Plata? I keep searching online but I cannot find anything recent.
Tiffany the Wal-Mart deal has to go back to court because the town of La Plata made an appeal to the last judges ruling that said they could proceed. So we will see if this judge says the same thing or decides something different. Hopefully it will happen and improve the towns tax base because they are going to need it.
ReplyDeleteThe Super Walmart issue is just painful to see. With the economy like it is a store like Super Walmart would be great for Charles County. We could capture all the Maryland dollars crossing the bridge going to the Super Walmart in King George; including my own. The current Walmarts in Laplata and Waldorf can not touch the one in King George. Praying a decision is made soon; before Walmart changes its mind about LaPlata.

ReplyDeleteWe have shown whole foods the area in the past and they need a distribution center closer to be able to supply the stores if they move to the area. They still have concerns about the demographics as well. We will keep in contact with them but nothing is even in talks yet. Nothing from Trader Joes at all.
I have not heard anything about old country buffet, I will keep tabs on it.
