Projects in Waldorf & La Plata

There are a few projects going up in the area, some getting started and some coming to completion.  It's a good sign that the economy is taking a turn for the good in Charles County.  Let's take a quick look at what's under construction in the area.

Community Bank of Tri County is expanding its offices on Leonardtown Road.  They are building a separate building tht will be connected with the existing one.

A new retail strip center is being built next to Lowes & Popeye's on Crain Highway.  Tenants include 7-11, Dairy Queen ice cream, and Benny's.

Buffalo Wild Wings is under construction in the former Uno's Location on the mall circle.  They are giving an opening date of late December.

The County is building the Waldorf West Library at the Wharf at O'Donnell Lake behind the St. Charles Town Center Mall.  They are at around 60 % completion.

A new retail center is under construction in La Plata next to Texas Roadhouse.  The first tenant will be Chipotle.

There is some highway construction going on in White Plains at the Billingsley Rd. Intersection to extend the turning lanes.  That should help keep traffic moving at the cross county connector.
That about covers all the larger projects in the area.  We will continue to keep you posted here or on our facebook page.

  1. This is good news to see things still happening - love Dairy Queen and will prefer this location to the one in the mall.

But do you know what is going to be located in the former Philmark cars building next to Raley's Furniture in Waldorf on 301? I see a fence up and construction going on.

Also, Cafe Rio is opening a restaurant in Waldorf according to job seeker websites. Do you know where?

  2. Cafe Rio just opened in Olney, MD, I have emailed corporate to see if they have plans for waldorf. They have not named Waldorf as a location coming soon on their site.
I just noticed the activity going on at the old friendlys / car dealership site. I have inquired about that as well and will let you know.

  3. What's the deal with Bow Tie Cinemas at Brandywine Crossing? They pulled the information under new locations on their website and pulled the sign down in front of the shopping center. Is there still a theatre going in somewhere or not?

  9. Have you been dealing with the proposed Stephen's Crossing development in Brandywine? I read in September that Greater Metropolitan Orthopedics wants to build a major medical center there and consolidate all its Southern Maryland offices. But there was an issue with road funding for the site. They considered looking at Charles County if road funds were derailed. Can you get them to come to Waldorf...you have plenty of great locations :)

  10. I have left a message at their office, I have a site in brandywine already proposed for medical that would be perfect. Thanks for the info. There are some perks to being in PG rather than Charles and it will take some help from the government to fix it. I don't like medical users leaving my county.

  11. I heard that Rainbow Construction plans to build huge apartments between Quailwood Parkway and Hawethorne Road in La Plata for low income people. Is that true? I hope it is not happening! It will bring more crime up like in Waldorf.

  12. Yes that is true, but its only in its preliminary stage. It would depend on the town to approve annexation of a property into the town similar to what is going on with the wal mart. They want to build 250 apartments and a few commercial lots where the ball fields are currently located. The project would be completed in phases over a six to ten year period.
