Walmart Supercenter Land Annexation Approved

The Town of La Plata has approved the annexation for the property on the south side of Rosewick road.  The vote makes it possible for the development of the new Walmart Supercenter which will take a large part of the 14 acres that will be added to the town.  The Walmart will also take over the now vacant Mitchell Supply.  Besides the Walmart there will be additional office and retail built including moving the Enterprise rental car office to a new location.  The new development will bring more jobs and more business to the existing Rosewick Crossing Shopping Center as well as construction jobs during development, and revenue to the Town of La Plata.
We will be working with Faison to fill the current Walmart space with new retailers such as Kohl's, Marshall's and Nick's of Clinton.  We will also be working on filling vacant spaces at Rosewick Crossing.  If you would like to lease space in these developments please give us a call.  Below are some concept drawings of what the supercenter may look like if its passed.

  1. I question the need for a Kohl's or a Marshall's when there is already one is Waldorf. I'm sure a Trader Joe's would do well in this area.

  2. Kohl's has been looking to come to La Plata for a while even before Walmart decided to expand. We used to have a nice clothing store in downtown laplata a long time ago. People from La Plata dont want to go to waldorf or the mall to shop. Even kohl's wants out of the mall. This is the next logical step for the area. Higher brand name clothing than Walmart or Target.

  5. What are the next steps for the proposed Super Walmart in LaPlata? I heard it may come up for a referendum vote in LaPlata?

Also, I visited the new Super Walmart in King George. It was actually the best one I have been inside. If they plan to open the same type of store in LaPlata it will be a huge success.

  6. The people that live in the town had a certain amount of time to get signatures on a petition. They now take the signatures to the town and they are checked to make sure the signers live in the town. If there are enough of them then the towns citizens get to vote on whether or not it can be annexed in the town. This is something new that the town had to create rules for so I dont know the whole process on how long it will take. If you voted for these council members to make decisions for the town you should accept the decisions made. Why did you vote for them in the first place? If you don't like the decision then you don't vote for them in the next election.

  7. I agree. Well if they cant open in Laplata hopefully they will consider a location further down 301 beyond Bel Alton, which really needs retail options.

Even better buy the land Peterson Cos abandoned and put it in Waldorf (smile)

Development is coming so people need to embrace it.

  8. Unfortunately the Peterson land is not large enough, we showed it to them. We have optons but are hoping for this one to go thru.

  9. It was going to move foward but an appeal has been made at the last minute by the people of the town of la plata. We have to wait on what the new judge rules. He will either say move foward or the people in the town get to vote if the property can be annexed into the town or not. I don't know right now when that ruling is supposed to happen.
