Happy New Year to you! Things are already getting moving for the new year and I am excited for the future. I will be posting updates as I get them for the new stores and restaurants as well as any other news that may be useful. So if nothing is posted please refer to a previous blog post or use the search bar.
Looks like Harbor Freight and Aldi Should both open this summer in Waldorf Shoppers World. They take possession of their spaces in February and start interior work. Aldi may be a bit later in the season.
Little Fish is now open at 173 St. Patrick's Drive in Waldorf.
Fosters Grille La Plata is now open. They are located next to Roy Rogers.
Dunkin' Donuts is under construction in front of the Holiday Inn Express in Prince Frederick
Five Guys is now open in Dunkirk at the Shoppes at Apple Greene
Taco Bell is scheduled to begin construction this winter at the Shoppes at Apple Greene in Dunkirk
The building under construction by the Lowe's in Waldorf is a Caliber collision shop.
Whats up with the KFC in Waldorf? No one knows. It was a remodel. I spoke to a friend at the county and they had an inspection in august but nothing has happened since.
Ruby Tuesdays closed in California, MD another victim of corporate cuts. The property has been sold. Trying to contact new owners to find what they are planning to do with it.
Tractor Supply Company is coming to Charlotte Hall, MD. The building is under construction by the Wawa at Mount Wolf Road. It is expected to be turned over to Tractor Supply to move in this summer.
Vegan Hut Cafe is set to open in Waldorf in March at 3643 Leonardtown Road across the street from the Sheriffs office.
Lucianna's Steakhouse will be opening this winter in the former Mid Atlantic Seafood behind Bob Evans in Waldorf. It will be a South American, Brazilian style steakhouse where the dry aged meats are cooked on a rotisserie on long skewers. Brought to you by the same creator of Galazio's Restaurant.
Ross and Burlington will open this March at The Landing at Woodyard in Clinton.
Family Place to Play is expanding to a new location in Waldorf Marketplace next to Fosters Grille. This location will have entertainment for older kids. Looking for a spring opening date.
Chris. I know it's not your property, but any idea what's planned for the land just south and on the same side of 301 of the Hampton inn in Waldorf? I noticed the sign has sold on it now.
ReplyDeleteThere is a retail strip planned and the rest of the land is being sold as lots. So all of it isn’t really sold.
DeleteI had heard a couple of years ago that the Dunkin in Prince Frederick was instead going to be a church.
ReplyDeleteThere is a weekly church group that meets in the Holiday Inn Express-so that is why there is a church sign on the property.
DeleteAny word on what might be going into the old H.H. Gregg, rumors are saying Whole Foods but in the past, Charles County isn't the type of area they are looking for. Is this true?
ReplyDeleteHighly unlikely but with amazon owning them now they may change some of their requirements. They didn't have a distribution center close enough in the past and they also didn't like our level of education. Apparently you need a college diploma to buy food from them.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of the Waldorf population has college degrees and support the government so this shouldn't be a question.
DeleteOnly 28% of Waldorf has a college degree.
DeleteHi Chris, do you know what the status is with the Kfc in Waldorf? Also, has Sharkbar opened yet? It always look closed when I drive by.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s a refurb but haven’t heard anything for sure.
DeleteWhen you do an online search for KFC Waldorf is showing KFC permanently closed.
DeleteDo you know anything about the old buffet site near Shoppers?
ReplyDeleteThey are taking forever. It looks almost ready to go. Perhaps inspections are taking longer.
DeleteWow. Whole Foods has an education requirement. Wow!
ReplyDeleteHi! Is it possible for us to get a total wines in our area?
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see what Amazon does with Whole Foods. I read they are looking to expand into other markets (mentioning some of the Sears locations that are closing as options). The HH Gregg building has a good amount of space but doesn't seem like it would be a great layout or the easiest to get in and out of for a grocery store. It makes sense for Amazon to expand their reach. As for the distribution, there is a Whole Foods in Old Town Alexandria so it's not like Waldorf is too far out of the realm for deliveries.
ReplyDeleteKFC has been closed for a long time. It looked like they had already remodeled and then shut down? Doesn't make any sense. They are also not included on the website anymore.
Hi Chris..I thought you mentioned sometime last year that Lidl was coming to Waldorf. Do you know status of that?
ReplyDeleteAny updates on business coming to the Bryans Road area? I've heard rumors of an Aldi..but who knows.
ReplyDeleteThe shopping center tried to get the college to do a culinary school in the building but it was turned down. Right now no other markets are interested.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris,
ReplyDeleteDo you know if Chicken Rico is opening back up after the fire? We loved that place.
Yes Chicken Rico will return as far as I know.
ReplyDeleteAny idea what will be going in the Ruby Tuesday's in Prince Frederick? Abrupt shutdown. Heard the site was owned by corporate and sold possibly to another restaurant (one person said Panda Express but to me that seems unlikely).
ReplyDeleteIt was purchased by a group out of texas in september from ruby tuesdays. The LLC does not give me any clues. I have reached out to them to see if they will respond.
ReplyDeleteDo you think we can get a Dave and Busters in Southern Md?
ReplyDeleteAny updates on the lidl coming to Waldorf?
ReplyDeleteDave and busters is kind of like PF Changs. They want a ton of people. It never stops of from trying to get them here. We want them to hear about Waldorf as many times as we can.
ReplyDeleteNothing new yet from Lidl. They are still working on their site plans from the last update.
Hi chris i was wondering if any new grocery stores are coming to Charlotte hall? Heard Walmart or giant were looking
ReplyDeleteI hope D&B and other huge chains stay far away. I'd rather support our local small businesses right here in the county.
ReplyDeleteWould a Zips drycleaner come to St. Mary's County?
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of any new grocery chains looking.
ReplyDeleteI dont see why zips cant come to st marys I believe they are a franchise so you will need someone to want to open one there.
Any news on the shopping center that was planned for the vacant southbound side of 301 in Brandywine at Chaddsford Dr? At one point they were clearing trees, but no other activity in almost a year.
ReplyDeleteStill looking for tenants before building anything.
DeleteAny idea what is going to take the place of Kmart in Prince Fredrick ??!! Hoping for a Target!! !
ReplyDeleteHave not heard anything yet on Kmart
DeleteHi Chris,
ReplyDeleteWhat are they building next the dental office and Aqua car wash on St.Patricks,Waldorf?????
Tire store moving from rt 925
ReplyDeleteHey Chris - Any idea if any business owners are considering building/opening an indoor multi-sports complex in Waldorf similar to Athletic Republic in Prince Georges County, the Discovery Sports Center in Montgomery County, District Sports Center in Alexandria VA, or the St. James in Springfield VA? Capitol Clubhouse doesn't come close to matching up to any of these facilities. Between youth sport tournaments in volleyball, basketball, indoor field hockey, and indoor track; a multi-sports complex would not only provide alternate youth activities rather than the current mediocre county recreational offerings but it could also attract some of these high end vendors that currently have no interest in the county. My two cents..
ReplyDeleteThere is a private group that has been asking for donations to build one. Its been in the works for years but I have not seen any news on their timeline. Its called southern Maryland sportplex and learning center. Another facility would be great if people are willing to pay for it.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me if there is actually a Circle K coming soon to the 301 North bound side down past Laplata next to the abandoned hotel. There is sign saying coming soon.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have heard yes Circle K is going there. They are taking a risk being so close to the bridge. Most go over for cheaper gas and cigarettes.
ReplyDeleteWhat is going up in the old Burlington spot?
ReplyDeleteHarbor Freight and Aldi Plus one more tenant they are still looking for.
ReplyDeleteWhat's happening with the Mckays site in Charlotte Hall?
ReplyDeleteI've been trying for two years to get an update on the McKays site. Broker never returns my emails.
ReplyDeleteHi. Do you have 10,000 sq.ft. office space with room for expansion in Waldorf, White Plains, or Brandywine?
ReplyDeletesend me an email cshasho@shasho.com I have a new office building that can be built out to over 10,000 sf right now.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to Shark Bar in the Pinefield shopping center?
ReplyDeleteHi Chris what is the status of the following? They have been talking about this forever but I haven't seen any changes. http://www.meetcharlescounty.com/Waldorf-Urban-Redevelopment-Corridor/ Also any status on the location of the former Waldorf Motel location?
ReplyDeletePersonally I dont see anything happening in that Urban Corridor any time soon. There is too much that needs to be done as far as infrastructure. Its also dependent on the light rail which is another thing that will take forever.
ReplyDeleteThe Waldorf Motel Land I will get an update for at a convention next week.
We need a good place to purchase salads.... cosi, chopt,
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have heard expect 2020 time frame. In December I heard the drawings were going in for permitting but have not heard more.
ReplyDeleteWhat do we need to do to bring a Health Wellness and Entertainment Complex to Charles County? i.e. The St. James in Springfield VA
ReplyDeleteSomeone with investors to make it happen. We have good sites in the area in opportunity zones that make it more appealing. Someone has to have the idea and push to do it.

ReplyDeleteDo you know what is going in the lot that is being prepped to be built on next to Tractor Supply on Mt. Wolfe in Charlotte Hall?
ReplyDeleteNothing is being built just septic work.
ReplyDeleteAre there any plans to continue building on the lot across from the Amish market in Charlotte Hall, MD on Three Notch road? IF so, when and what will be built there? Thank you in advance
ReplyDelete:)
