Aldi Market will be coming to Waldorf Shoppers World. They will occupy a section of the former Burlington store which is moving to the former Sports Authority space. Harbor Freight Tools will occupy part of the space as well. Construction should start as soon as Burlington has moved all of their inventory over to the new space. The Shopping center is also working on a remodel to update its look.
Aldi is a German discount grocery chain with over 10,000 stores in 20 countries and 1,600 stores currently in the United States. They are no-frills stores and many of its products are their own brand. Getting a shopping cart requires paying a quarter but you get it back when you return the cart. Sometimes items in the store are only available for a short amount of time so if you want something don't wait. Bring your own bags because they are not supplied.
UPDATE Grand opening will be August 15, 2019.
Is there room for Hobby Lobby to come to Shoppers World????? You said they want a space with a grocery store in it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there one just 5 miles up the road?
ReplyDeleteYes in PG county though.
DeleteClosest one is 45 minutes away.
DeleteSOME GOOD NEWS FOR A CHANGE!
ReplyDeleteI have not seen the actual size of the stores going in so there may not be enough left for hobby lobby. We will see.
ReplyDeleteCan you comment on what is happening to the older bank building in front of Bed Bath and Beyond on 301 in Waldorf? It was roped-off yesterday, so it looks like someone is finally doing something. Now, if they could do something about that decrepit gas station nearby, too.
ReplyDeleteI think they are putting a new roof on it. There was a long term lease with the bank so they were not in a rush to lease it again. The gas station is owned by a separate group than the shopping center and seems they just don't care about it.
ReplyDeleteHas Wegmans or Whole Foods considered building in Southern MD? What about a Kaiser Permanente?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Aldi will be great for Waldorf!!!!
ReplyDeleteWegmans and Whole Foods have no interest in the area.
ReplyDeleteKaiser has not called us looking for anything either. Maybe because of Medstars large presence.
You may want to see. I heard kasier is looking to come to waldorf. My doctor informed me they were. So definitely check I will love to know how true this is
DeleteThey are looking to build a new site in Bowie md.
Why is Charles County building an Aldi and Lidl within 2 miles of each other it makes no sense. Especially since there is an Aldi in Brandywine.
DeleteThere's probably not enough space for Hobby Lobby. There was a posting on Loopnet that shows the grocery store taking around 21,000 square feet and Harbor Freight taking around 16,000 square feet. The middle space is left over.
ReplyDeleteHopefully Greenburg Gibbons can attract Wegmans to the Waldorf Station development. If anyone can get them here it would be them. Their drawings are pretty obvious they are trying to attract them. And that is probably the best bet for a Hobby Lobby too.
Glad to see they'll end up doing some renovations to the center. It looks really bad. Even the new Burlington sign they put up looks damaged around the edges. Hopefully that's just temporary.
Too bad it's Aldi and not Trader Joe's though.
Is the Aldi in Brandywine being converted to a Trader Joe’s? Can’t believe we need two Aldi’s so close or that the Albrecht group thinks this area is so low rent that all we get are discount stores.
ReplyDeleteWe have targets in Brandywine and Waldorf so why not? A lot of people don't cross the county line to shop. Too much traffic as well. A Waldorf store grabs that group.
ReplyDeleteChris - any insight that can be provided on the development (timeline, future tenants, etc.) on route 228 next to the turf farm? I know they just completed the turns in the intersection.
ReplyDeleteWhen will Burlington open back up?
ReplyDeleteI was told October for the opening.
ReplyDeleteBurlington has re-opened as of September 14, 2018. Happy shopping!
ReplyDeleteAny openidate for Harbor freight?
ReplyDeleteNo opening date. It’s going to take a while to get the building ready. Maybe late spring.
ReplyDeleteAny word on Aldi yet? I see theybare working over there
ReplyDeleteI wish we would get a Long John Silvers restaurant in Waldorf. We had one years ago that closed up.
ReplyDeleteWegman...we need a Wegman's. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Aldis in Brandywine is very close though. Yes there are a lot of people in Waldorf and Brandywine, but Aldis is an OK store. Wegmans would be the best. The Safeway, Shoppers, and Giant are sub par. I have no interest to shop at Aldis. LaPlata could at least have space for a Wegmans. It makes me wonder why Wegmans or Harris Teeter have no interest in Charles County. I work near a Wegmans in a different county, so that is where I buy most of my groceries, unless I need something right away. This county needs to seriously have better restaurants and grocery stores. The sprawl in many parts is ridiculous. Too bad I'm stuck here, for now.. So much I just do not like about this county. Not trying to upset anyone, it is my opinion from experiences I have countered over the last decade.
ReplyDeleteI heard they don’t want to build in areas that aren’t “Urban” enough with consumers willing to spend more money on food.
DeleteWegmans and/or Trader Joe’s would be great in this area. Also need a vegan/vegetarian restaurant.
ReplyDeleteYes would love both of these stores in Waldorf Or La Plata
DeleteWaldorf needs HEALTHY FOOD AND GROCERY STORES.
ReplyDeleteCorrect wegmans, trader joes and whole foods will not come here. Not enough population.
ReplyDeleteCan the Sheriffs start working on the rise in violent crimes in Charles County?
ReplyDeleteTwo different counties, people don't want to drive there to shop. There is a target in Waldorf and Brandywine. Why not?
ReplyDeleteAs for crime I have lived here for 30+ years. I don't personally see a jump in violent crime. I think social media puts it in our face more so it feels like it. Our sheriffs office has don't a great job catching the offenders as well. We have a good community.
