March 2020 Updates

March is here!  Early Spring weather or a last minute blizzard?  You never know.  I hope the new year has brought you good things. Stay healthy and wash those hands.  Make smart decisions.
With the recent things going on in the world there are a lot of things closing for our safety.  Venues, Gyms, Restaurants only able to do take out, etc.  Please be patient with people. We are all in this together and we are adapting to this as quickly as possible.
Get your information from good sources to keep track of whats happening like the Center for Disease Control:   https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html

Here's whats new:

Marshalls will have their Grand Opening April 2 at the Landing at Woodyard.  8895 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD.

So the Shoppers food Warehouse in Waldorf will open back up as Shoppers again.  I am not sure why.  From what I understand it is still owned by McKays.  If I hear anything else about it I will post.  Have not heard about the St. Mary's site yet.

Taco Bell and 7 Eleven will be coming to the Brandywine area at the Brandywine Village project to be built in front of the Chadds Ford residential neighborhood.

Five Guys has officially opened in its new location in La Plata next to Panera bread.  Their former store has a lease pending.

Donut Connection and Hershey's Ice Cream has opened at 22807 Three Notch Road in California, MD.

Its time for the 2020 Census.  This is very important for everyone to do so we get funds for our state and counties different departments.  It also give us the numbers for how many people are in the county so when those new stores and restaurants want to come they have that information.  You should be getting a code in the mail soon.  It takes only a few minutes to fill out.  Please participate!   https://2020census.gov/

  1. I was at Costco the other day at the new membership counter and was told that Costco is coming to La Plata in another 6 months or so. I have not seen any news on this. Was wondering if that info has hit your radar, whether it’s true or not?

  2. I get that the Shoppers brand is more well known in Charles County than Mckays would be, but kind of surprising that UNFI would allow them to use it. They are working on exiting the business, but still causes a lot of confusion in the marketplace with the parent company still owning the other locations, as product selection would likely be different. Not to mention the negatives on how they let all of those employees go right before Christmas without much notice. I get the union wages are probably too expensive for Mckays to pay to keep the former employees, but this could backfire on them if people's expectations on what Shoppers was isn't held up. It's pretty deceitful actually on their part.

  3. The idea of a Costco in La Plata is very unlikely.

  4. I talked to the leasing agent for San Souci in St Mary's she said McKay's was given the right to use the name Shoppers when they purchased the store. (I have a business in this shopping center and I am concerned about the vacant store.) I think this is a cheaper way for McKay's to open without spending the money to rebrand....

  6. Thanks for the information on McKays.

There are a few small users taking space in the Bryans Road Shopping Center. Its just about full now. But you wont see anything big because No new houses are being built and more restrictions have been put on the land in the are to keep the number of homes down. These were put in pace by the last group of commissioners. Its called the WCD Zone.

  7. Why another Taco Bell? No one eats at the taco bell in Waldorf and surprised its still even open. Too much duplicatiion and nothing new. i woulld rather see a Uncle Julio's or District Taco , CIci's Pizza than another Taco Bell. Restaurant selection for Brandywine Crossing already sucks other than Cheddar's that's why they all fail...Carolina Kitchen and Hershey will be the next to close. Stop shoving low quality eateries at us, do better!

  8. If they choose to come to an area they usually do homework to see if it makes sense. They aren't all corporate stores, many are franchises. Aside from a couple of stores District taco stays almost completely inside the beltway. Uncle Julios also stays in well populated areas. We are not busy enough for them apparently.

  9. Hi. Noticed a Subway sign in the Giant shopping center here in Dunkirk. Are they relocating because of the recent robberies at their current location? Or because of better foot traffic or both?

  12. I don't see it happening in La Plata anytime soon. No big boxes.
Dress barn went out in Waldorf. With one in Brandywine I don't know if they would come back.
