Hobby Lobby will be taking over the former K-Mart location in California, MD. I am waiting on confirmation from my source but they should open later this year in time for the holiday season.
Hobby Lobby owns 700 stores in 47 states. They also offer one of the highest wage rates in the industry with full-time employees earning $15.35 an hour and part-time employees receiving $10.23 an hour. Not to bad. They are still looking for a spot in Waldorf and we have given them a few places to look at. So we will see what happens.
UPDATE 11/17/16: Landlord has started construction on the facade work of the building. Opening wont be until early 2017.
UPDATE 3/1/17: Grand Opening date is April 17, 2017
Big box spots in Waldorf are pretty limited at the moment. I guess the old Staples spot is probably unlikely since Michael's is in that center so the Sports Authority space is probably a good option or maybe that spot at the Marketplace that's open.
ReplyDeleteAny word on a renovation at Shoppers World like St Charles Towne Plaza did recently? Or Shops at Waldorf ever finishing the one they started and stopped years ago?
Also the shopping center next to Pep Boys has a sign saying end cap available. Is Casual Male closing? Any possibility of them opening one one of those DestinationXL stores down here?
Can you elaborate on what is happening next to the turf farm on route 228? I noticed that the 228 Market got a major (and much needed) remodeling as if to prepare for what is happening.
ReplyDeleteI dont believe that shops at waldorf will do any other renovations unless its on the larger spaces. They never know what facade they will want to put on. Casual male approached us to move to the new center where american hardware was. They were going to change to the DXL store but they wanted to change the look of the building too much. So we passed. They may have found a space somewhere else.

Any idea what's going on across from Checkers where the eye place used to be in the stand alone building?
ReplyDeleteFor the Shops at Waldorf why don't they finish the already established tenants with the newer look? It looks so disjointed at this point and doesn't make much sense.

I have not heard of any other large tenants or restaurants coming to the area. Chilis was working but it went away I believe.
