Looks like Krispy Kreme has got their sights on a location across from the San Souci Plaza in Lexington Park. Not much more information to give right now. Updates as we get them.
UPDATE 3-23-16 : Still looking for some sign of progress but nothing has happened.
Just curious as to why it seems some restaurants and other places will bring their business to Lex Park before Waldorf. It seems like the population and money being spent is centered in Waldorf for SoMD.
ReplyDeleteThis is because of the base and the population here is on the rise. Waldorf has damn near everything when it comes to chain restaurants. But with the base being here and the cove point operation Lexington park is a Iona's coming place

DeleteI think the shamefully obvious reason why businesses ignore Waldorf is the correct one. Its the demographics alone. No one wants to say it, but I am going to with hopes that my comments wont start trouble. I don't think it's lack of college degrees (everybody I know in Waldorf, including myself, has at least a masters or beyond), or shortages in population. I think it is because the population is heavily African American and some businesses refuse to see GREEN instead of brown. Until someone proves this, calls them out, and explains that this is unacceptable, this will keep happening.
ReplyDeleteSorry Waldorfmom, but I have to disagree. I live and have worked in Lexington Park and the majority of my neighbors are African American, as were most of my customers. I personally think that Waldorf has many more food and shopping options than Lexington Park does, and I'm happy to see new choices here. As for why Lexington Park, the answer seems fairly obvious. The base down here drives our economy. Though many don't live in the immediate area surrounding the base, the income from those commuters is going to be very helpful. Also, a quick search of the nearest krispy kreme location shows one in Alexandria, which is only 15 miles from Waldorf (depending on what part of Waldorf you live in; I know that Waldorf is a big place). That is a 50 mile or more drive for us here in the southern parts of St. Mary's. Perhaps the company is looking to spread out the stores to better serve the entire population. I'm sure that if this store does well others will open.
ReplyDeleteUntil something is done with the roads into Waldorf, I don't want to see anything new. Seems our commissioners don't care about that and that's why no one wants to come here.
