October Updates

October...Time is flying by.  I'm not ready for the cold, wet weather, cleaning up leaves... ugh.

The holidays will be upon us in no time at all.  Remember to choose kindness!

If you want to see something in the area please contact that company and tell them you want them here!  If I do it its just a broker trying to fill a spot.  They need to hear from consumers!

Now lets enjoy some new store openings.

Chick-fil-A is now open 8813 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD at The Landing at Woodyard.

Locke Supply Co. is opening a new location on Demarr Road in White Plains, MD.  They are an Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC Distributor based out of Oklahoma City with 165 locations.

Choba's African Kitchen & Bakery has a grand opening date set for October 14, 2019.  They are located in the Waldorf Shoppers World at 3240 Crain Highway, Waldorf, MD behind Chipotle.

Landon's Ices and Creams now open at 505 Charles Street in La Plata, MD

Clothes Mentor now open at the Berry Patch Shopping Center next to Wawa at 11487 Berry Road in Waldorf, MD

Carter's / Osh Kosh B'gosh now open at the Shops at Waldorf Center next to Ross.  Plaza Way, Waldorf, MD

For our commuters, the Maryland State Highway Administration has a video for changes coming to the Indian Head Highway / RT 210 corridor which include closing the Kirby Hill intersection and constructing an overpass.  You can see what the finished project will look like here:

Pizza Boli's and Subs now open in Mechanicsville at 26945 Three Notch Rd, Mechanicsville, MD

Fresenius Kidney Care has opened a new location at 28103 Three Notch Road, Suite 1A, Mechanicsville, MD

Chicken Rico will return shortly to its location after a long remodel.  Look for it to open in a few weeks pending final permit approvals.

Construction has started on a new medical building behind Silver Diner in Waldorf.  It will be occupied by a dialysis center and other medical specialists.  Another building will be coming online shortly after in the same complex.

Majesticland and Majestics E-Gamer Lounge will open this Fall in the St. Charles Town Center Mall on the lower level near Sears.

Waldorf Park Coming Soon

Waldorf Park will be a new, 30,000 square foot shopping center located near the corner of Route 301 North and Smallwood Drive.  It will connect by access road to the Cracker Barrel restaurant, Carrabba's and Hampton Inn.  Construction has started.   Tenants currently signed are Chick-fil-A, Jersey Mikes Subs, Nail Trix Salon and Spa, and a Starbucks with drive thru that I know many people have been waiting for.  This will be a second location for Chick-fil-A and not a relocation.  That should help with the long lines at the current location that can sometimes expand out onto the highway.  The expected time to complete the center is Winter of 2020. Individual tenants should open a few months after.  Chick-fil-A has a proposed opening of Spring 2021.

September Updates

Back from vacations and back to school!  Hope everyone had a wonderful summer. September updates have begun!

I would also like to take a minute to mention something here that I may have talked about on Facebook but I don't think I spoke about on the blog.  I bring it up because the Charles County EDC has now mentioned it as well.
As you know the things we say especially on social media can effect businesses we have here and businesses we could get here.  Potential prospects look thru social media posts and speak to residents before they decide to plant a flag here.  If all they hear is negativity they aren't going to come.  So please think before you speak or post.  Every city has its issues but some people tend to make them much larger than they really are.  Take pride in where you live.  Help make it a great place to be.  And tell your kids to do the same. #charlescountyproud #mycharlescounty

Wild Birds Unlimited will have its grand opening September 11th at the La Plata Plaza Shopping Center next to Target.

Lucianna's Steakhouse is now beginning soft openings at their location at 3331 Plaza Way in Waldorf behind Bob Evan's Restaurant.  Reservations are suggested.

Aldi is now open in Clinton, MD at The Landing at Woodyard.

Chick fil a has almost completed construction in the same shopping center.

Hancock Family Farms Store will open September 27th in La Plata.  6 St. Mary's Avenue, Unit 100C.

Taco Bell is now open at the Shoppes at Apple Greene in Dunkirk, MD

Southern Tire and Auto Centers has opened a new location at 131 St. Patrick's Drive in Waldorf.

The Waldorf Senior and Recreational Center is now open at 90 Post Office Road.

August Updates

August already??  

ALDI is now open at the Waldorf Shoppers World next to Harbor Freight Tools.

ALDI in Clinton will have a grand opening August 29th.

Crafty Crab Seafood is coming to the former Hard Times Cafe location at 1120 Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf.  Crafty Crab has 8 locations in the South with 18 more locations on the way.

Panda Express to be part of the redevelopment of the former Ruby Tuesdays site in Prince Frederick, MD.  

New Building Coming to CSM Campus in Hughesville

The College of Southern Maryland will be building a new 50,000 sf  Center for Health Sciences at their Hughesville campus.

It will feature specialized nursing and allied health labs for programs in Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Occupation Therapy/Physical Therapy, Massage therapy, Pharmacy Technician/Medical Assistant and Medical Laboratory Technician.

There will be a ground breaking ceremony on August 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. and they plan to have it completed in March of 2021.

New MedStar Medical Building Coming to Waldorf

Since this is a large project I figure it needed its own separate post.

MedStar Shah Medical Group is currently removing the building at the corner of Crain Highway and St. Patrick's Drive for a new three story 51,000 sf state of the art facility.  It will house a walk in clinic, cancer center, pharmacy, medical specialists, surgical specialists, and also diagnostic services.
We look forward to its completion and the many specialties it will bring to help the surrounding community.

July Updates

 Happy July! Hope you are enjoying the summer.  It's been a little quiet but there is still lots of projects in the works.  

If you want to see something in the area please contact that company and let them know you want them here!  They need to hear from the consumer more than anything.

One other thing.  Tip your servers!!  The wage for tipped employees is $3.63 per hour in Maryland.  They make less than minimum wage and depend on tips to live.  I speak to restaurant servers all the time and its shameful the stories I hear about people running up tabs and leaving next to nothing.  Please think about that before you go out.

Wawa La Plata is finishing up a major refurbishment on their entire property.  The entire store was gutted and redone.  New stone and paint on the exterior as well as around the pumps.  New landscaping going in with smaller trees to make it more visible.  Grand Re-Opening Friday July 12th.

Clothes Mentor will be opening a store in the Berry Patch Shopping Center next to Wawa on Berry Road (Rt. 228) in Waldorf.  Clothes Mentor is a resale store that buys and sells high-quality, gently used name-brand and designer clothing, shoes and accessories.  This is only their second store in the Maryland area.

Construction is about to get started on a new freestanding building in the La Plata Plaza Shopping Center.  Five Guys will be one of the tenants. 

Countryside Kennels will be taking over the former Riviera Kennels property in Hughesville after a refurbishment of the property.  They hope to open by November of this year.

MedStar Shah Medical Group is removing the current five story building at 10 St. Patrick's Drive in Waldorf to make way for a new state of the art medical center.  More details as we get them.

Starbucks with drive thru has opened in the Brandywine Crossing Shopping Center.

Carter's and OshKosh B'gosh are coming this October to The Shops at Waldorf Center.  They will be taking 5,000 sf next to Ross.

Aldi in Waldorf Shoppers World should open sometime in August.  They are very close to completion.  UPDATE August 15 2019 is the Grand Opening.

As far as we have seen thru email and construction Chicken Rico will return.  They are working on some interior alterations that require more approvals from the county.
