We are working with The Peterson Companies

We are pleased to announce that we will be joining forces with the Peterson Companies on their new shopping center project in Waldorf, MD. The site is located on the old Stardust Motel grounds between Gardiner Outdoor Products and the Chrysler Jeep dealership on Crain Highway South. We are currently in the planning and layout phase of the project and hope to break ground this summer and have sites for tenants by next year.
The Peterson Companies is one of the largest privately-owned development companies in the region. The National Harbor is one example of their contributions to the area.

UPDATE 1-31-13 The property is up for sale and there is no current plan for a shopping center.  The Peterson Company is involved in other ventures with the national harbor for now.  If you have any interest in developing the land please give us a call.

How are you Chris? Would you have any idea as to what type of retail stores will be in the new Waldorf shopping center project? In addition, are there any plans for a Cheesecake Factory resturant in Waldorf? Thanks for all of your help!

I really enjoy your website

Richard

As of now we are working on a grocery store, restaurant and fitness center. We have a few more in the proposal stages but they would like us to keep quiet until all the leases are signed. We are looking for new and different tenants and will try to recruit more when we attend the shopping center convention next month. In the past there were rumors about Cheesecake Factory and p.f. Chang's coming but unfortunately they want higher population numbers especially during lunchtime. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for visiting.

Hi Chris. I love your blog. Thanks for keeping us residents informed about what is happening in Waldorf.

My hope is that the new grocery store that you are considering is a Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Yes Organic Market or some other type of natural/organic food store. Waldorf sure needs it!!! :)

WaldorfMom, An Organic market is something we are definately trying to bring to the area. With some luck and a market that understands the area and the population, we will make it happen. Thanks for your comments!

Chris
I truly enjoy your blog and was excited to see the Waldorf Town Center project back on track. But the Peterson Cos website took down the Waldorf project last week; is it still going to occur? If so, I would love to have a Hobby Lobby there are anywhere else your company represents. Also I have been praying for a Johnson & Murphy, Banana Republic or Gap. Thanks for keeping us informed!

The plans are up in the air right now but currently they are redesigning the look of the center. They are learning from us and surrounding centers what is working and what does not. One of those things is the "main Street" like over at brandywine crossing. Its pushed on the companies to do this type of layout but shoppers dont like it so the layout they had planned 5 years ago has to be changed. Also their time schedule is not as fast as we hoped. We are now looking at around 15 months to deliver pad sites for new tenants due to additional highway and site work that will have to be done. I will check on those retailers you asked about to see what they require in the area to bring a store here. Thanks for the comments.

Hi chris. I just came across this blog and can greatly appreciate it. Its nice to get information on whats coming to Waldorf. I agree with Waldorf Mom. I would love to see a Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Trader Joes or Yes Organic Market come to Waldorf. I wanted to know If you had any idea what they are building on the parking lot of The Hilton Garden Inn off of St. Patricks Dr.? Also do you know if they plan to put something like a coffee shop or cute little ice cream shop like Pink Berry in the Lancaster shopping center off of St. Patricks? Thank you for the updates!

The construction at the Hilton Garden is the new Charles County Library. I have brought a few places like coffee shops and an ice cream store to the area, most are mom and pop operations and unfortunately when we run the numbers with them they just dont have the capital it takes to make it. We hate to burst a persons dream but we would rather show them if its going to work before they go all in. We dont want any business to fail. I will look up the store you mentioned to see if they are around here. Thanks for your comments.

It sure would be nice if you could convince the folks at Plamondon Companies, the owners of the Roy Roger's brand, to open a new restaurant in La Plata or Waldorf. The new building with Chipotle would be the perfect place. Or perhaps the family that owned/operated the former Roy Roger's would be interested. People in La Plata certainly loved that restaurant.

If i can get them to consider the area again I will make it happen. Unfortunately the great famliy that ran Roy's for so many years has mostly retired or the kids have chosen other paths. Thanks for your comments.

Since Wow Wingery close down over at Marketplace do you know when Buffalo Wild Wings will open?

Chris Shasho said...

Buffalo is still making its way thru planning and adjusting the buildings size to accomidate equipment. I cant give a firm date on when it will open. Perhaps in the fall. Marketplace is working on keeping the wingery in place but it will take some time to find a new owner.

Any update on Waldorf Station project?

Chris Shasho said...

The outlook for a new center is not good. peterson co. is to busy with other projects. I will post on this very soon.

HarrisM said...

Too bad. Thanks for the response.

Chris

I noticed your sign is no longer at the site of the proposed Waldorf Towne Center for Peterson Cos. Did they finally get a buyer for the land?

Chris Shasho said...

No buyers yet, they gave it to someone else to play with for awhile. I lose one and gain five more. No worries.

HarrisM said...

True. And Peterson Cos is a huge company so they need to put some more muscle into developing that land like they have been doing with National Harbor and other retail projects in VA.

Chris Shasho said...

Very true, It was not easy to get things moving when we did bring tenants or buyers. They needed a staff to concentrate on just this.

Any updates on Roy Rogers yet? has the purchase of the former Arby's building been finalized?

Chris Shasho said...

Roy's is waiting on approvals from the county....still. The contract may be contingent on them getting their approvals so it may have not actually be sold yet.

Hi Chris,

I have a couple of questions about the shopping and restaurants that will be available in the Waldorf, MD area. Is it possible to bring shops, such as Whole Foods, Green Turtle, Cheesecake Factory, Banana Republic, Jcrew, and maybe even Georgetown Cupcakes? I know that most of my neighbors are people who work from home as contractors or government employees, so this can create a substantial amount of traffic for these restaurants/shops throughout the week.

Thanks.

Sandra

Hi Sandra, Awhile after I did this post I had done a blog about some of the big name restaurants and why they are not in Waldorf. Here is a link:
http://shashoconsulting.blogspot.com/2011/08/hey-chris-why-cant-we-have-around-here.html

I think it will help explain it. We do have a Green Turtle in La Plata. If you have any other questions feel free to email me. cshasho@shasho.com
